It seems like centuries ago, but there was once a time when the quality of a television program mattered. Back when Paddy Chayefsky helped usher in an era of sharp writing, bold characterizations and enthralling narratives. That was before Jersey Shore, Housewives of Whore County (or, something like that) and pretty much any slightly odd profession (i.e. Ice Road Truckers, The Exterminator) began taking up all the real estate across the frequency spectrum.
Nowadays, America has gotten so disgusting and lazy, that if you do anything other than sit on your couch and watch these abysmal shows, you can get an abysmal show of your own. Enter Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, yet another notch on the wall of some alien creature keeping tally of the pros and cons on whether to bomb our species to hell or not. We’re getting closer to extinction.
Honey Boo Boo is an off-shoot (Christ, they’re reproducing!) of a creepily popular TLC series, Toddlers and Tiaras. Alana, a six year old child beauty pageant contestant, made waves recently after a clip from the series racked up millions of views on YouTube due to her sassy, strutting and actually quite funny mannerisms. It was only a matter of time before TLC offered the jive-talking 6-year-old her own series. God help us all.
