UFC targets series in Japan

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is heading to Japan next year.

UFC executive vice president and managing director of the Asian Operations division Mark Fischer revealed the news to Nikkan Sports.

He went on to say that the country will host a series of smaller events, which will take place in smaller arenas. At the moment, the plan is to have four shows total, though none will be pay-per-view events. Therefore, they will not be numbered events.

Furthermore, no broadcast plans have yet been revealed.

The UFC returned to Japan earlier this year with UFC 144, featuring Frankie Edgar vs. Benson Henderson I. The event was deemed a success and the first major step in the direction of bringing the UFC to the nation.
