10 Things We <3 About Having the Crap Scared Out of Us

Just about everyone loves a good scare from time to time, there's just something primal about fear that get's the blood pumping. With the release of F.E.A.R. 3 on June 21st, we thought we'd explore what it is that's so damn fun about having the crap scared right out of you.

Chills - Everybody knows that feeling of terror that runs up your spine and leaves you with a chilling feeling of dread. There's nothing quite like it and authors, film makers, video game designers and undead dudes in the hockey masks know this. Look at it this way, that chilling feeling of terror let's you know you're still alive. For now.

Scary Pranks - Remember that time when you did (blank) and scared the crap out of your friend while you laughed on the floor for 10 straight minutes? Yea, gotta love the memories.

Exploring The Dark Side - It's only natural to be curious about the dark side. The bizarre and horrific side of life that is so different from our daily lives is exactly why we seek out scary movies and novels. We may not understand the supernatural darkness, but that's the exact appeal that makes it one hell of a good time.

Gore - While it's entirely possible to have a good scary movie without all the gore, where's the fun in that? Blood, guts, brains and dangling eyeballs, the more over the top the monsters dispose of our insides the better. A good scare is fun, but if a movie can find a way to slide in some gory creativity, it's icing on the cake.

Satisfaction - For those of us that enjoy a scary roller coaster, nothing quite beats that satisfaction of walking away from those four loops and three corkscrews with your lunch still in your stomach. The pounding heart rate, perspiring palms; scientific studies have shown that almost no other physical experience can match it. Nothing satisfies like a scare.

Stephen King - If you're looking for a page turner that will have you sleeping with the light on for the first time since childhood, Stephen King is your man. With more of his books hitting the big screen than any other author, the guy is without a doubt, the master of literary horror.

T&A - You can just about always count on a good horror movie to have a healthy dose of sexy flesh (that's still on the bone). From The Shinning to Scream and everywhere in between, there's just something about knife wielding psychos that gets the ladies all hot an bothered. We don't ask questions why, we just try and enjoy the scantly clad beauties while they're still in one piece.

The Unknown - It's kind of hard to explain why, but something about that mysterious creepy road or abandoned house is intriguing to the human psyche. Whether or not it's a smart choice to go down that path of peril, it's certainly a thrilling one. Mankind has been journeying into the unknown for centuries, and scary as it may be, we won't be stopping anytime soon.

Wes Craven - No other guy in Hollywood has dished up more chills than this man. With a career spanning four decades, the dude is responsible for hundreds of diced up teens and basically wrote the book on shooting modern horror.
