Dead Soldier Liquid Comics Interview

Dead Soldier will be the latest creation from writers John Moore and Richie Smyth, coming to stores this September. Liquid Comics will release the four part graphic novel series which begins at the end of World War 1. The story focus on Colonel John Donner who becomes the only survivor of an attack. Then due to certain events, he becomes a monster bent on hunting down his enemies.

John Moore (Flight of the Phoenix and Mad Max) says the inspiration of the story was the concept of a creature similar to those in Predator but in the trenches of war. He describes Donner as a classic character exploited by the powers that be. Donner was born in the trenches and becomes a personification of warfare.

Richie Smyth says these events "bring the world as we know it to its knees. This is only the beginning." He describes the story as apocalyptic in a way because this is an apocalypse from within rather than something foreign.

Donner survives for too long and makes it into the 21st century where he roams Iraq and Baghdad after he talks about a New World Order. Smyth describes the character that Donner becomes - adequately named John Doe - as a "twisted revenge machine." He is a good man with good intentions but "waging war against war."

Both Smyth and Moore intend for the story to come across as a commentary on the military's "cynical disregard for human life" as well as a killer story with great artwork.
